About Loose Projects:

“In somewhat of a turnaround from the usual model where an Artist Run Initiative closes down only to have the space’s cultural capital, or the improved status of the real estate taken advantage of by a commercial gallery; Loose, a new Artist Run Space has grown out of the network and goodwill built by, and around Scott Donovan’s Gallery which became a more nomadic curatorial project in December 2005.”

“Loose Projects is a new artist run initiative that has arisen from
the aftermath of the Scott Donovan Gallery. While Scott has now gone on to develop Scott Donovan Projects many of the artists he promoted have joined together to transform the artists' relationship from a commercial gallery to an artist run non profit space.

The 10 artists involved are David Haines, Philipa Veitch, Carla Cescon, Mark Titmarsh, Lisa Kelly, Anne Kay, Jane Polkinghorne, Alex Gawronski, Bronia Iwanczak and Ryszard Dabek. These artists form the core exhibitors as well as a curatorium developing invited shows and group events.

The artists practice across most disciplines and come together on the basis of their commitment to developing an alternative to current structures in both commercial and non-commercial exhibition venues.”

“Loose projects is a new context for consideration and innovation in artist-determined practice via an expanded program of exhibitions, editions, artist talks & interviews, writing, feedback, publications, archives and events. Fostering a generative and responsive platform to host critical dialogue amongst local contemporary practitioners, Loose aspires to a creative and proactive model for autonomous and sustainable artist initiatives.”

“Loose Projects throws itself headlong into generating a syntax of chaos, brought about by our predilection for bandit like behavior and a desire for a certain kind of momentary liberation from the giddy drunkenness of the star factor. Loose projects aims to short circuit the hang dog clouds of red tape through word of mouth, shared dialogue and practice.”
